Paternal Utterances

It’s no secret at this point that my son’s first word was dada.

It was cute.

I was happy for my husband.

Blah blah blah…

So, then I waited.  Surely, he would say mama (or some variation thereof) shortly.

Right?

Then came he second word: ball.

Okay.  He’s a boy.  He likes sports.

Then, after what seemed like a lifetime…mama!  I TOLD EVERYONE!  He says MAMA!!!

But…he only said it in his highchair.  Right before he was eating.  And was super hungry.  Wait.  Let me listen.

….

Um.  He’s saying nomnom.  Like food.  Freaking nomnom?!  Are you kidding me?!

DADA.  BALL.  …NOMNOM?!?!

Not cool, kid.

Several words followed:  nana, doggie, duck, up and yep.

Finally, he said it.

His.  Ninth.  Word.

Mama.

Yes, I was elated.  My child.  Said mama.  I’ve waited so long to hear it.

Blah blah blah…

But, if he thinks I won’t use this against him later, he doesn’t know his mama.
